The examples of entries and settings below are for the English operating

system.

z This section describes using LPD. For details about using FTP, see “Managing the

Printer from a Computer” (Æ P.2 -33 )

At a workstation log in as a super user.

Perform the settings for the spooling system.

z For Solaris 1.x

Add the following content to the /etc/printcap file:

<Print queue name>|<Comment>:\

:lp=<Special file device>:\

:sd=<Spool directory>:\

:rm=<Printer IP address or name>

Solaris.1x Sample Entry:

print_queue_name|comments:\

:lp=/var/spool/print_queue_name/.null:\

:sd=/var/spool/print_queue_name:\

:rm=printer_host_name

z For Solaris 2.x

 Start the admintool utility.

 Select Browse

Æ Printers.

 Select Edit

Æ Add Æ Access to Printer.

 For the Printer name and Print Server, enter the desired print

queue name and printer IP address or name.

 Select OK.

z The Admintool utility is a software application provided with the operating system.

For more details, refer to the operating system instructions.

z The procedures above are examples of setting procedures. These procedures may

be different for your network environment.

This completes the computer settings.
